Sealing Performance: The core function, preventing leakage.
Compensation Performance: Able to compensate for minor unevenness, non-parallelism, and surface defects of the flange connection surface.
Adaptability: Through different material combinations, it can adapt to complex working conditions such as extreme temperatures, pressures, and corrosive media.
Compressibility and Resilience: A good gasket can generate sufficient deformation to fill gaps when bolts are tightened (compressibility) and maintain sufficient sealing force under pressure and temperature fluctuations (resilience).
Stress Relaxation Resistance: The ability to resist the attenuation of sealing force under long-term pressure and high temperature.
Made from a single metal or alloy, used in high-temperature, high-pressure, and harsh operating conditions.
Flat/Ring Gaskets: The simplest form, used for low pressure or as positioning gaskets.
Serrated/Corrugated Gaskets: Achieve sealing through the elastic deformation of the metal.
Octagonal/Elliptical Ring Gaskets: A type of metal ring gasket used for flange connections in high-temperature and high-pressure applications. Their cross-section is octagonal or elliptical, fitting into the flange grooves to generate extremely high sealing pressure through "line contact," resulting in highly reliable sealing. However, the flanges used in these gaskets are expensive and difficult to disassemble.
Gasket selection follows the "condition-matching" principle:
Pipe and flange connections: This is the primary application area for gaskets, found everywhere from household water pipes to chemical plant pipelines.
Pressure vessels and reactors: Manholes, sight glasses, and connecting flanges all require gaskets of appropriate grades based on internal pressure, temperature, and media.
Engines and power systems: Various rubber, metal, or composite gaskets are used in cylinder heads, oil pans, intake and exhaust manifolds, and oil pumps.
Pumps, valves, compressors, and other fluid equipment: Connections such as housing flanges and end caps.
Electronic products and electrical cabinets: Providing sealing, dustproofing, waterproofing, and electromagnetic shielding (conductive gaskets).
Household applications: Rubber or silicone gaskets used in faucets, water pipe connections, and kitchen appliance seals.
